Behind the Scenes at Reframe: Meet Scott Eikenberry

If you’ve ever watched a complex machine - whether a car engine, a computer, or even a well-organized workspace - and wondered how it all fits together or what invisible forces keep it running smoothly, then you’ve gotten a glimpse into Scott Eikenberry’s world. For a lot of us, software engineering can seem abstract, like a puzzle of code and logic. But for Scott, it’s all about seeing the connections - the systems within systems - that make everything work.

From the early stages of his career, Scott has been drawn to systems - all the hidden connections, intricate architectures, and the patterns that lie beneath the surface. He’s not a showman. He doesn’t crave the spotlight. In fact, you’ll find him most at ease behind the scenes, working quietly to untangle the complexities of technology.

Much like when he was a teenager out on the water with Jeff and his dad, tasked with finding and fixing a problem after lightning struck their boat. It was a moment of urgency, and Scott - although alarmed - remained focused, calmly assessing the situation and solving the problem, knowing that every piece of the puzzle had to fall in place for everything to stay afloat. This quiet, methodical approach to problem-solving is something Scott carries with him into his work, ensuring Reframe’s technology functions smoothly, even when the stakes are high.

Just like Vision, the superhero whose calm intellect and precise problem-solving abilities often save the day, Scott is the quiet force at the heart of Reframe’s engineering team. It’s this reserved brilliance, this deep understanding of the unseen forces that shape the digital world that makes Scott the perfect person to lead Reframe’s engineering efforts.

As VP of Engineering, Scott translates big ideas into actionable plans, ensuring that the dev team is aligned with the broader goals of the company. He thrives on creating systems that empower people to work more efficiently, using the tools they already rely on. Whether he’s investigating third-party tech, writing specs, automating builds, debugging, or even stepping up to triage issues with users, Scott’s attention to detail and desire to influence human behavior drives the product's evolution.

“It’s all about building the product in an effective and efficient way,” Scott says. “My goal is to help facilitate the translation of the vision of product management and Jeff into action, and being able to deliver that from an engineer’s perspective.”

Scott’s problem-solving mindset is rooted in his hands-on approach to life. Whether it’s a home project or perfecting his espresso-making skills (he’s known for showing up with his tiny mug during our weekly all-hands), Scott loves breaking down problems and finding solutions. His love for efficiency, both in tech and in life, is evident in everything he does.

Outside of Reframe, Scott’s passion for teamwork and detail-oriented nature extends into his love for rowing, a sport he’s been dedicated to for years. “Rowing is a technical sport,” Scott reflects. “It’s not just about physicality. You have to focus on technique and work in sync with the team. Even though you’re rowing as an individual, they’re all depending on you.”

Scott especially appreciates the learning aspect associated with taking on any endeavor - whether it’s tackling a new activity, honing an old skill, or creating something from nothing. He enjoys the thinking process and brings with him an innate desire to get better, do better, and be better. It propels him forward. Central to this theme of learning and improving is the art of communication. Scott believes, “All success in life, relationships, and business comes down to how well you can communicate your ideas, while also understanding and incorporating other people’s thoughts and ideas.”

The focus on growth and communication extends into his belief in Reframe's mission. "We’re solving a difficult problem," Scott says. "We’re finding a way to make people not only more efficient but enable them to engage with computers and each other in a better way that expands their human capacity. Reframe helps people break free from the limitations of the apps or operating systems they use. We’re getting the metadata out of their heads and into the computer itself.”

Just like the calm and focused sailor he is, Scott navigates the engineering challenges ahead with precision and care, always working toward creating something greater than the sum of its parts - guiding his team, the product, and our mission toward a future where the work, and the people doing it, can thrive together.
